About the BOC-3 Filing
What is a BOC-3 Form?
A BOC-3 Form, also known as Blanket of Coverage, is a U.S. DOT-required filing to designate a process agent in each state upon which the motor carrier operates, as per 49 CFR 366. The appointed process agent(s) would thus legally represent the motor carrier in order to receive legal documents, such as court or government notices.
Why is a BOC-3 Form required?
The U.S. DOT requires every motor carrier looking to engage in interstate commerce to file for a processing agent. All new and returning motor carriers that fall under interstate commerce must file a BOC-3 Form in order to receive operating authority. This is a federal requirement and is NOT OPTIONAL.
